1. Promenade Beach (Rock Beach)
The iconic 1.5 km seafront in White Town. There is no sand – just rocks and a wide walkway – but it is perfect for sunrise walks and evening strolls. The road is closed to vehicles from about 6 PM to 7:30 AM, so park nearby. Pair it with our White Town guide.
2. Paradise Beach
A clean stretch of golden sand reached by a short boat ride from the Chunnambar boat house, about 7–8 km south of town. The ferry usually runs from morning until about 4 PM, so go early to avoid the queues.
3. Serenity Beach
Just north of town near Kottakuppam, Serenity is known for surfing schools, beach cafés and a young crowd. Waves are good for beginners in the right season.
4. Auroville Beach

5. Eden Beach (Chinna Veerampattinam)
A well-maintained beach about 10 km south of Pondicherry – the first beach in Puducherry to receive the international Blue Flag certification for cleanliness and safety. A good family option.
6. Pondy Marina Beach
Close to town on the southern side, with food stalls and an evening crowd.
7. Veerampattinam Beach
A quiet fishing village beach, best early in the morning when the boats come in.
8. Quiet beaches along the ECR
Ride north on the East Coast Road towards Mahabalipuram and you will find many empty stretches of sand. Always check local conditions before entering the water.
Getting between beaches

Paradise Beach and Eden Beach are generally the most suitable, but the sea can still be rough. Swim only where it is permitted and follow lifeguard advice.
